Membership is by invitation to people who are prominent in the business and commercial life of Exeter and the Devon area and in control of, or heading, a commercial enterprise or organisation, which is being conducted to the highest possible standard.

Membership of the incorporation represents both a privilege and a responsibility. Although membership confers few tangible benefits, it signifies an unbroken continuity between past and present, which differentiates this historic Incorporation from a professional association or social club.

Members have to be willing to give their time and skills in support of the Incorporation which may benefit from their expertise and experience by serving on the governing body and committees, participating directly in civil society, and contributing to the funding of the Incorporation.

Members are thus directly associated with the Incorporation’s main function, which is to maintain the Hall to the highest standard, promote the reputation of the Incorporation through serving charitable organisations and supporting our charitable endowment.

Those who fulfil the necessary criteria and wish to be considered for membership should, preferably in the first instance, make themselves known to a member who is willing to support their name going forward for consideration. A waiting list for membership exists with balloting taking place annually.
